About SIAM

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is an international community of over 13,000 individual members. Almost 500 academic, manufacturing, research and development, service and consulting organizations, government, and military organizations worldwide are institutional members.

SIAM fosters the development of applied mathematical and computational methodologies needed in these various application areas. Applied mathematics in partnership with computational science is essential in solving many real-world problems. Through publications, research, and community, the mission of SIAM is to build cooperation between mathematics and the worlds of science and technology.

SIAM was incorporated in 1952 as a nonprofit organization to convey useful mathematical knowledge to other professionals who could implement mathematical theory for practical, industrial, or scientific use. Since then, SIAM’s goals have remained the same:

To advance the application of mathematics and computational science to engineering, industry, science, and society;
To promote research that will lead to effective new mathematical and computational methods and techniques for science, engineering, industry, and society;
To provide media for the exchange of information and ideas among mathematicians, engineers, and scientists.

SIAM is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, staffed by more than 60 full- and part-time employees.

  • Journals (16 Journals)

SIAM JOURNALS ONLINE — 1997 to present.

SIAM publishes 15 peer-reviewed research journals. Follow the links below to view each journal's editorial policy, editorial board with e-mail links, staff and subscription information, tables of contents, and more. The full text of SIAM journals is now available electronically on a subscription basis. In addition, the new SIAM/ASA Journal on Uncertainty Quantification will accept submissions as of May 10. Follow the link for details on our newest journal.

  • Books

For more than 50 years, SIAM books have been a leading source of knowledge for the world’s applied mathematics and computational science communities. SIAM’s line-up of stellar, prize-winning authors and titles that address both timely and fundamental topics have made SIAM books indispensible to researchers, faculty, and students around the world. Now, for the first time, almost 400 books are available for institutions to offer to their users electronically.

Subjects

  • Conferences

SIAM conferences focus on timely topics in applied and computational mathematics and applications and provide a place for members to exchange ideas and to expand their network of colleagues in both academia and industry. The SIAM Annual Meeting provides a broad view of the state of the art in applied mathematics, computational science and their applications.

  • Proceedings

SIAM publishes selected proceedings from its yearly meetings and conferences.
Proceedings Macros

Workshop on Algorithm Engineering and Experiments (ALENEX)

The aim of the ALENEX workshop is to provide a forum for presentation of original research in the implementation and experimental evaluation of algorithms and data structures

Workshop on Analytic Algorithmics and Combinatorics (ANALCO)

The aim of the ANALCO workshop is to provide a forum structures.for the presentation of original research in the analysis of algorithms and associated combinatorial

Data Mining

Data mining is an important tool in science, engineering, industrial processes, healthcare, business, and medicine. This conference provides a venue for researchers who are addressing these problems to present their work in a peer-reviewed forum.

ACM-SIAM Symposium on Discrete Algorithms (SODA)

This symposium focuses on research topics related to efficient algorithms and data structures for discrete problems. In addition to the design of such methods and structures, the scope also includes their use, performance analysis, and the mathematical problems related to their development or limitations.

  • SIAM News & Reports

Welcome to SIAM News, the news journal of the applied mathematics community! SIAM News offers:

  • technical overview articles written by experts in a wide range of disciplines
  • reports of progress and breakthroughs in research
  • commentaries on the issues -- political, ethical, educational, and scientific --
    that affect the mathematical sciences community
  • news about legislation and funding issues, people, and university programs
  • comprehensive calendar of events
  • professional opportunity advertisements from all over the world
  • and much more. . . . see for yourself!
  • Thinking that letters to the editor would be a welcome addition to SIAM News, Nick Trefethen
    got in touch with some of his friends. The result has been a small but steady stream of letters
    from all over the world, published in SIAM News beginning in June 2011. If you have an idea
